Playground in Doubrava to be used by preschool kids, schoolchildren, parents and elderly citizens
06.05.2011
DOUBRAVA (5 May, 2011) – Yesterday, a new space for virtually all generations was formally handed over to the inhabitants of Doubrava in the Karviná region by the mayor of the village, Květuše Szyroká, and the Director of the OKD Foundation, Jiří Suchánek. The village and the foundation contributed to the CZK 200 thousand investment equally. As a result, the first space intended both as a playground for children and a relaxation zone for adults who will accompany them was created.
The area adjacent to the nursery school features a new climbing set, a playhouse, a climbing wall and, of course, benches. “The playground will be open to children from the nursery and primary schools, and to parents and grandparents of the children who will find a pleasant environment here,“ explained kindergarten principal, Radomíra Jasenková.
Satisfaction could not be concealed by the Mayor of Doubrava either. “It is the first place in the village where children can play with adults and relax at the same time. At them same time, it will serve non-resident children who attend our kindergarten and elementary school,“ said Květuše Szyroká.
Doubrava was heavily affected by the mining activities of OKD and faced a decline in the number of inhabitants; at present, life is gradually returning to the village. With help of the mining company, the village prepared new plots for the construction of dozens of homes, thousands of tourists visit the local Dinopark built on a recultivated pit tip and, in a few years, the undermined Kozinec will become a unique natural habitat for waterfowl and other species of animals, part of which will be also accessible to visitors for fishing, walks or swimming.
“What OKD communicates in its press releases becomes a reality in Doubrava; people and nature return to areas formerly affected by mining. We are delighted that we can participate in the restoration of the village,“ said OKD Foundation director, Jiří Suchánek.
