OKD has made it possible for children from children’s homes and St Barbara´s Civic Association to be guests at the Summer Shakespeare Festival
19.08.2009Ostrava (19 August 2009) – Just as last year, children from children’s homes in Ostrava and Havířov were given the opportunity to see the Summer Shakespeare Festival at Slezkoostravský Castle.
The organiser PaS de Théatre donated thirty tickets to the OKD Foundation for Comedy of Errors as a note of thanks to OKD for their support last year of the Summer Shakespeare Festival in Ostrava. Just as last year, the Foundation gave the tickets to children from children’s homes because they normally have no opportunity to see such performances.
Some tickets were also given to the St. Barbara´s Association, which helps children who lost one of their parents due to an accident at work.
This performance was deliberately chosen for children as the Comedy of Errors is one of the funniest pieces written by the famous British playwright and at the same time the funniest on this year´s Festival programme. The comedy full of twins, twists and the unexpected, so typical of the playwright, was performed by actors from the leading Ostrava theatres, who clearly enjoyed playing this piece.
„The wonderful venue of the medieval castle, dark night, candlelight, the smell of hot mead, moon high in the sky and a lot of fun, humour and good time,“ was the immediate impression of Hana Gumpingerová, the secretary of St. Barbara´s Civic Association.
„Excellent! I have never been in the open air theatre. The performance was perfect, we had a wonderful time. It also motivated us to check the programme of the open air cinema which reminded us of our early teens,“ added one of the mums from St. Barbara´s Association Monika Ciprová.
