The most important sponsor of the OKD Foundation, OKD company, is the largest and the sole hard coal producer in the Czech Republic. It operates in the south of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin – Ostrava-Karviná District, where it operates five hard coal deep mines.
OKD, as the largest employer in the Moravian-Silesian Region, feels its responsibility particularly with regard to regional development and the improvement of residents’ living conditions. It supports cultural events and sports activities of local clubs and invests in cultural monuments. Through sponsorships and donations, it also helps young people that are leaving children’s homes and handicapped children. It also supports investments in industrial monuments and the reclamation of land affected by mining activities.
